African missionaries pray in troubled lands
Christians who left their homes in the West African nation of Ghana to plant churches and spread the Gospel in the unreached lands of their continent are praying for peace and stability.
In Mali, a nation of nearly 16 million people — 95 percent of whom claim Islam as their faith — Peter Ofori works with seven Churches of Christ. Relative stability has returned to the nation, Ofori said, after a military coup and insurgency by Tuareg rebels in the northern part of the country.
Rebels in the Central African Republic have seized control of the government. Missionaries Worlanyo and Edith Bor came face to face with rebel soldiers.
“We are saved,” Worlanyo Bor said, “after they’ve taken away our personal belongings, threatening to kill me.”
