The Abilene Reporter-News in Texas reports:
Longtime Abilene dentist John L. Estes Jr. spent as much time caring for people’s spirit as he did their teeth, his friends and family say.
Estes, 87, died Monday at his home. He had been in practice in Abilene for more than 50 years and was known all over the Big Country for his expertise in dentistry as well as his Christianity, generosity, and good humor, family members said.
Estes, an elder at University Church of Christ, was active in mission work. He and his wife, June, along with other family members, often set out for places including Haiti, Indian reservations in the West, and Africa.
