BOWLING GREEN, KY — Minutes and miles apart, two brothers who were members of the Woodburn church died Dec. 7 in separate one-vehicle accidents.
Rory McDowell, 23,lost control of his pickup coming out of a curve and struck a tree.

The Associated Pressreported that the victims’ father, sheriff’s deputy Andy McDowell, was taken tothe site where Rory was killed. Afterward, the father drove past another fatalaccident, learning only later that the fiery wreck took the life of his onlyother child, Cory McDowell, 21.

About 15 minutesafter the first crash, Cory’s car veered off another rural road, went into aspin, struck a tree and burst into flames.

Former Woodburnminister Kenny Hart compared the family’s story to the biblical experience ofJob, who lost all his sons and daughters. Hart said God would help loved onesdeal with the tragedy.

“TheLord is near to those who have a broken heart,” Hart said at the brothers’funeral, according to the Bowling Green Daily News.
