Russian composer brings songs of faith to the U.S.
Russian musician and composer Konstantin Zhigulin will tour the United States in September. His a cappella Spiritual Music Ensemble will sing original hymns, in English, at Churches of Christ in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama and Texas.
The composer and his wife, Leena, were members of the Barnaul,Russia, church before moving to St. Petersburg, where Zhigulin is astudent at the church-supported Institute of Theology and ChristianMinistry.
Zhigulin has written a collection of hymns based onthe book of Psalms. Churches in Texas and North Carolina have adoptedhis songs into their worship, said Joel Petty, president of the St.Petersburg school. Symphonies in Russia, including the NovosibirskPhilharmonic and Chamber Orchestra, have performed Zhigulin’s works.
“Music is one of the greatest gifts of God,” Zhigulin said. “It is a unique connection of feelings, thoughts and emotions.”
