NAMED: Curtis Janz, athletic director, Oklahoma Christian University, Oklahoma City. Janz is a member of the Memorial Road church, Oklahoma City.
AWARDED: Jeff Baker, King Spirit Award, given each year by the Montgomery Advertiser to a person 35 years old or younger who has made contributions to the cause of human rights, just like Martin Luther King Jr., for whom the award is named. Baker is associate professor of law and director of clinical studies at Faulkner University’s Jones School of Law, Montgomery, Ala. He also serves as director of Jones Elder Law Clinic and the Family Violence Clinic. Mark Barone, the One Person Can Make a Difference Award, and Randy Schow, the Distinguished Services Award, by the Christian Child and Family Services Association. Barone is executive director of Christian Family Services of the Midwest, Overland Park, Kan. Schow is executive director of Mountain States Children’s Home, Longmont, Colo.
APPOINTED: Philip Patterson, to serve on a National Assessment of Educational Progress panel representing children in private schools. Patterson is president of the National Christian School Association and a professor at Oklahoma Christian University. Cathleen Shultz, to serve a four-year term on the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Shultz is dean of the Harding University College of Nursing, Searcy, Ark.
