New and Noteworthy: Authors from Churches of Christ

KIDS DEVOTIONAL Duck Commander Devotions for Kids
Korie Robertson and Chrys Howard. Duck Commander Devotions for Kids . Nashville, Tenn.: Tommy Nelson, 2015. 223 pages. $16.99.

“Duck Dynasty” star Korie Robertson, a member of the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, La., teams up with her mother, Chrys Howard, to write more than 100 devotionals for children ages 4 to 8.

Each includes a Bible verse, a lesson based on a story or fun fact about the Robertson clan, a prayer and a craft or activity.
MEMOIR Boogs and Bean
Britney Hawkins. Boogs and Bean: Everyday Parables for God’s Children . Bloomington, Ind.: WestBow Press, 2014. 155 pages. $13.95.

Hawkins, a member of the West 21st Street Church of Christ in Clovis, N.M., shares stories from home life — similar to those shared in books for women by Proverbs 31 Ministries.

All of the parables Hawkins presents are rooted in lessons she has learned through motherhood, raising two boys on an isolated rural ranch.
SUFFERING When Mountains Won’t Move
Jacob Hawk. When Mountains Won’t Move: How to Survive a Struggling Faith . Bowie, Texas: Start2Finish Press, 2014. 105 pages. $10.95.

Hawk, preaching minister for the Riverside Church of Christ in Kerrville, Texas, presents eight chapters advising readers on how to keep their faith in times of trial. Ideas include embracing weakness, serving others and turning to the church. Each chapter ends with reflection questions, making it appropriate for individual journaling or group discussion.
DIABETES SUPPORT The Way of Wisdom for Diabetes
Kenneth R. Ellis. The Way of Wisdom for Diabetes: Cope with Stress, Move More, Lose Weight and Keep Hope Alive .  Scotts Valley, Calif.: CreateSpace Independent Publishing, 2014. 201 pages. $15.15.

Ellis, who preaches for the Church of Christ in Noble, Okla., has lived with Type 1 diabetes for 50 years.

His book is a mix of scriptural motivation for staying well, the history of diabetes treatment and practical guidance on day-to-day habits for keeping blood sugar at healthy levels.
