Member trapped by Montreal school shooting

MONTREAL, CANADA —

“I had to walk four blocks from the school in order to get reception onmy phone to call my parents since the system near the college was sooverloaded,” Halsey said.
That phone call was the answer to Charles and Faith Halsey’s prayers. The members of the Verdun church had been frantically trying to reachtheir son. Faith Halsey also called the home of minister MikeMazzalongo and asked for prayers.
The gunman, 25-year-old Kimveer Gill, killed one young woman andinjured 19 people before killing himself during the Sept. 13 attack, police said.
The Verdun church prayed for the victims and their families at its Wednesday night Bible study, Mazzalongo said.
“I had a lesson ready on the effectiveness of small groups,” Mazzalongosaid. But he put it aside and let the group discuss “the meaning ofGod’s protection in a dark and evil world.”
“Prayers for his watchful care were really heartfelt that night,” he said.
