Habitat volunteers shine ‘the light of God’

Carla Ramos puts some sweat equity into her new home, with assistance from volunteer Ramon Nelson, as they build frames in the parking lot of the Northside Church of Christ in Bloomington, Ill. Members of the church and other faith groups participated in a Habitat for Humanity project to provide a first-ever home for Nelson and her two daughters.

As volunteers hammered, a few used markers to write messages on the beams, including “God bless this house and family,” and, “Through this window shines the light of God,” The Pantagraph of Bloomington reported. “The most rewarding part is meeting the family,” Northside church elder Chris Conway said, “and they’re helping us with construction, too.”
