Austin H. Emery, Memorial

Austin H. Emery, age 85, of Mena, Ark., died Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born on Friday, Feb. 20, 1931, to Austin Hallett Sr. and Anna Seaton Emery in Pawtucket, R.I.

Austin served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and met Barbara Harrison at a USO Club. They were married on Aug. 11, 1950, in San Antonio. 

He soon started preaching and teaching in several Churches of Christ spanning more than 50 years. 

Austin received his highest honors in life when he received his doctoral degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. 

He and Barbara moved to Mena in 1995, where Austin started preaching and teaching for the Northside Church of Christ. He served the church for 18 years until his retirement.

Austin served 14 years on the Mena Hospital Commission. He enjoyed studying the Word of God and spending time with his family. 

Austin was a loving, compassionate husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. 

He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Emery; and one sister, Marian Scribner. 

Austin is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Emery of Mena; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Rita Emery of Texas; one daughter, Robin Emery of Iowa; brother Richard Emery of New York; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
