Allen Woodger Himes, Memorial
Born Aug. 9, 1926, in Odessa, Mo., he was the sixth child of the late Gordon Allen Himes and Roberta Bryant Himes. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Darlene Hickman, in 1985, and a son, Paul Allen Himes.
Allen was a graduate of Los Angeles High School, UCLA, The University of California (Berkeley), American University and a proud alumnus of Pepperdine University.
He was trained as a mechanical engineer and retired from the Office of Naval Research after 34 years as a federal employee. He was a member of the Senior Executive Service and served as Associate Director of Navy Laboratories.
Allen was an enthusiastic player and fan of tennis and a devoted, lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, Kay, he is survived by his daughter, Patti Ann Himes of Searcy, Ark.; three grandsons, Patrick, William and Michael Looney; three great-grandchildren; a stepson; seven step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
