Why we support The Christian Chronicle: Philip and Patricia Slate
Did you know that 111 donors (individuals, couples and families)…
Raymond and Jane JohnsonThe couple met as college students at East Central University in Ada, Okla. After graduation, they worshiped with the Del City Church of Christ in Oklahoma. Raymond Johnson worked with the Oklahoma Legislative Council and his wife worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
The couple then moved to Wilburton, Okla., to work for Eastern Oklahoma State College. Raymond Johnson later worked for the public education administration in Tulsa, Okla. Next came 25 years in the southern Oklahoma town of Tishomingo, where the couple worked at Murray State College for several years before Raymond Johnson moved to Southeastern Oklahoma State College in nearby Durant. He then came full circle, returning to — and eventually retiring from — East Central in Ada. Jane Johnson retired from Murray State.
Raymond Johnson, 70, served as an elder in Tishomingo for seven years — and another three in Ada.
Their dedication to teaching doesn’t stop for weekends. Both have served as Bible class teachers.
How did you learn about The Christian Chronicle?
Raymond: I don’t remember the first time I read it, but I liked it immediately — to have a newspaper that was designed like a newspaper. To give you news throughout the brotherhood, not really focused on doctrinal issues but news, that was unique. It was an excellent publication and still is. I know the awards the Chronicle receives are outstanding. I’ve enjoyed the Chronicle and seen what’s happening across the brotherhood and have wanted to support it all along.
Why have you chosen to support the Chronicle all these years?
Jane: The Chronicle is a good work. Its articles keep the brotherhood informed, and it showcases what’s going on in areas that we probably wouldn’t know about otherwise.
