What’s your top 10?
Here’s a list of our readers’ favorite a cappella albums
February 18, 2004
In the November issue of the Christian Chronicle, we reported the story “A cappella’s New Groove” and asked our readers for their top 10 a cappella albums.
Here are the results, as reported in our February 2004 issue:
10. “We Have Seen His Glory,” Acappella
9. “Live from Paris,” Acappella
8. “If That Isn’t Love,” Revival
7. “Travelin’ Shoes,” Acapella
6. “Once Upon a Tree,” Vocal Union
5. “Beyond a Doubt,” Acappella
4. “Set Me Free,” Acappella
3. “Conquerors,” Acappella
2. “Sweet Fellowship,” Acappella
1. “Rescue,” Acappella
How we did it
We tabulated about 300 votes and came up with a top 10. We assigned one point per vote, regardless of where people placed it on a list. For example, if you voted for Acappella’s “What’s Your Tag Say?” as your number one album, and “Live From Paris” as your number 10, they both received one vote.
Tabulating the votes in that manner, Acappella’s “Rescue” emerged as the number one a cappella album of all time, but it was a tight race between “Rescue” and “Sweet Fellowship,” another Acappella album.
The top seven were easy to determine, but there was a six-way tie for eighth place. The contenders were:
“Live From Paris,” Acappella
“If That Isn’t Love,” Revival
“Hymns for all Ages,” Acappella
“Song in my Soul,” AVB
“We Have Seen His Glory,” Acappella
“A cappella Project I,” Glad
To determine albums eight through 10 on our list, we went back to the submitted lists and assigned “points” based on the rank each voter gave each album. “If That Isn’t Love” won that contest. The majority of the people who voted for Revival put that album at the top of their list.
