‘We’ve become a people divided,’ minister says at New Mexico legislative prayer breakfast
The Daily News in Alamogordo, N.M., reports on the state’s annual Legislative Prayer Breakfast. Al Maxey, minister for the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ in Alamogordo, was the guest speaker.
The newspaper reports:
Guest speaker, Church of Christ (minister) Al Maxey, said he was pleased to be in a place where everyone could come together and pray.
“We have a wonderful freedom in this country,” Maxey said. “I hope we never abuse it and never lose it.”
He said he believes there is tyranny in the nation that is tearing apart the fabric of the republic. “Black or white, Christian or Muslim, gay or straight, Democrat or Republican, and rich or poor — we’ve become a people divided. Special interest and personal agendas battling are for dominance. While the vision of our Founders lies buried in the dust of our conflicts. I believe it begins in the hearts of ‘We the People.’ It’s not just for the few at the expense of the many.”
