Voices only: The Old Rugged Cross
Welcome to Voices only! This weekly online feature highlights the…
Welcome to Voices-only Wednesday. After a two-week hiatus (much of it spent herding children at church camp) I’m back, offering you the best a cappella videos I can find on the web.
YouTube has lots of videos of singers who film themselves doing separate vocal tracks and then combine them using a split-screen effect. (See this VOW from a few months back.)
Kaoma Chende of Niles, Mich., offers something different. Using a steady cam, he films himself at different positions in the same room, singing a cappella favorites. The result is a one-man quadruplet quartet.
A preacher’s son from the southern African nation of Zambia, Chende says he wants to share and spread love through music, by God’s grace.
He mines the old hymnals for some of these classics. Here are a few. Find more on his YouTube channel and Facebook fan page.
Look at the fish tank on this next one and you can see the split-screen effect. (Still, great vocals!)
Oh, how He loves you and me. “Turn on HD, bottom right corner”

I’m not familiar with this next one, “The Light of the World,” but I like it.
Love this one …
This last one may be my favorite.
