Voices-only Wednesday: Hear and download ‘Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy’
Welcome to Voices-only Wednesday.
This occasional feature highlights the best a cappella videos that come across our eyes — and ears — on the web.
Give a view and a listen to this rendition of the classic hymn “Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy” (I always thought the title was “Let the Lower Lights be Burning” but I guess I was wrong.)
This one’s by a quartet called Vocalocity (not to be confused with the communications company now known as Vonage Business Solutions).
If you like it, the group offers a free download of the song. You also can buy the group’s current album, with a cappella covers of secular tunes including “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables,” Counting Crows’ “Accidentally in Love” and Starship’s “We Built this City.” No foolin’.
So what exactly are “lower lights” anyway? This backstory gives some details — and a powerful message about the need to continually point people around us to the truth of God’s love.
