Voices-only Wednesday: ‘All is Well’ — even when it’s not
Welcome to Voices-only Wednesday. This occasional online feature highlights the most interesting a cappella videos that come across our eyes — and ears — on the web.
The holidays can be times of great joy — and great sadness — as we reflect on the blessings we have and the things we’ve lost.
So members of my congregation, the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, compiled a video telling brief stories about Christians who have endured tragedy and hardship in recent years — followed by the words “Everything’s OK in the end. Even if it’s not OK, it’s not the end.”
(The video and most of the sources I found online attribute that quote to a playwright named Carolyn Myers, but I can’t find much info on where exactly it comes from.)
The video appeared during a Wednesday night “Wonder of Worship (WoW)” class and a recent Sunday sermon by minister Phil Brookman.
One of the families mentioned in the video is Luke and Amy Carnagey, A few months ago I wrote about a Sunday night devotional on their lawn.
The music is an a cappella rendition of Michael W. Smith’s “All is Well.” (He and Carrie Underwood performed an much-praised version of the song during this year’s CMA Country Christmas.)
Here are the lyrics:
All is well all is well
Angels and men rejoice
For tonight darkness fell
Into the dawn of love’s light
Sing A-le
Sing Alleluia
All is well all is well
Let there be peace on earth
Christ is come go and tell
That He is in the manger
Sing A-le
Sing Alleluia
All is well all is well
Lift up your voice and sing
Born is now Emmanuel
Born is our Lord and Savior
Sing Alleluia
Sing Alleluia
All is well
