Welcome to Voices only, our weekly offering of the best a cappella videos we can find online.
To be honest, we wondered if we should even have a Voices only this week in the aftermath of the tragic mass shooting at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ near Nashville, Tenn.
Ultimately, we decided to hold the piece we had planned for this week and instead offer this rendition of the classic hymn “Peace in the Valley” by Southern Gospel group Brian Free and Assurance.
May this serve as a tribute to the family of the woman killed, those wounded and all of our brothers and sisters in Christ affected by this terrible act of violence.
This song has a lot of meaning for church members in the U.S. and around the world. Here’s a 2015 video I shot in Irpin, Ukraine, of American Christians singing the hymn along with Ukrainian believers displaced by the violence in the east of their country. Here’s the feature I wrote on the conflict, “Peace in the Valley.”
