Voices only: ‘Ave Maria’ in a stairwell and other great (and bizarre) Christmas a cappella
Welcome to Voices only: Christmas edition!
Kings Return is making a career out of singing in stairwells. (We’ve featured them before.) Just in time for Christmas, here’s a rendition of “Ave Maria” (That’s a Christmas song, right?).
If you’re in the mood for something a bit more festively filled with Peanuty goodness, here they are singing “Christmas Time is Here” — in a DIFFERENT stairwell!
I thought this one was really good. It’s BYU’s Vocal Point with a mashup of “Carol of the Bells” and “Wayfaring Stranger.”
BYU’s Noteworthy also put out an equally powerful rendition of “O Holy Night.”
Finally, here’s VoicePlay with an updated version of “The Chipmunk Song” that throws in references to Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter and the musical “Hamilton.” I can’t decide if it’s an improvement on the original or the degradation of a classic. My 14-year-old daughter watched it and gave it a one-word review: “Traumatizing.” You be the judge.
Eeesh. I can’t end with that. Here’s Rip_Chord taking us out with that catchy N’Sync song my kids like.
But THIS has to be my personal favorite video of the Christmas season 2022. (You have to click those words. I can’t embed the video here. But it’s worth the click, trust me!)
MERRY CHRISTMAS from all of us at The Christian Chronicle!
