Editorial: Two resolutions for 2014
1. We will get to know our neighbors. Across the nation, Churches of Christ are urging members to rekindle the fire of evangelism that, for many of us, has dwindled. We find it easy to board a plane and show Christ’s love across an ocean, but it’s more difficult to walk across the street and love our neighbors. To be honest, a lot of us don’t even know our neighbors.
We resolve to make 2014 a year in which we set aside time to learn about the people with whom we share a street, cul-de-sac or apartment complex. We will invite them into our homes and visit their homes. We will learn about their children, their parents, their hopes and dreams. We pray that we will seize the opportunities God provides to share our faith with our community.
2. We will spend time in the Bible. Churches of Christ once were renowned for our amazing knowledge of Scripture. For many of us, that’s no longer the case. We resolve to dedicate time for regular Bible reading and meditation.
Programs for mobile devices, including YouVersion, offer easy-to-use reading plans that send reminders and track progress.
In the spirit of increased Scripture reading, we’re re-introducing a monthly, Bible-based devotional in our Opinion pages titled “In the Word.” We pray that you will find these devotionals inspiring as we pursue a deeper understanding of God’s plan.
