We reported previously (here and here) on Abilene, Texas, minister Tony Roach’s bid to compete on “Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star.”
The Abilene Reporter-News offers this update:
Abilene minister Tony Roach will travel to Los Angeles to have a shot at a slot on a reality program that could lead to a regular series on Oprah Winfrey’s upcoming network.
But the Minda Street Church of Christ minister had to be uncharacteristically mum about the victory Monday, citing directives from the network itself.
Roach’s supporters were more vocal.
Courtney Jackson, one of the organizers of Roach’s voting campaign, said the minister’s fifth place finish was a pleasant surprise.
Originally, Roach seemed locked into seventh place — not enough to be one of the top five online contestants, one of which is guaranteed a slot on the upcoming reality show.
But vote counts “fluctuated throughout the process,” according to a news release from OWN. Votes that could not be authenticated were eliminated from the competition.
Roach ended up in fifth place once the virtual smoke cleared.
