Texas church helps 450 needy families
GLADEWATER, Texas — Economic woes have hit this East Texas community hard.
Many people have lost jobs, and families are hurting, said Joe Chase, minister for the North Loop Church of Christ.
“We had one lady who visited us who lost all she had in a robbery of her home,” Chase said. “She didn’t even have shoes to wear.”
She does now, thanks to the 100-member North Loop church.
The congregation provided more than 450 families with clothing, appliances, bicycles and household goods through its recent “Give Away Day.”
“Our church families have been saving up to give to people in our neighborhood,” Chase said. “We wanted to give away high-quality gifts to people in need. Many of our items still had store tags on them.”
The church plans to make the giveaway an annual event.
