SEABROOK — In what can be the bleakest time of year for food pantry support, this summer two Seabrook youth groups took on the task to help out.
Bruce Pierce, minister of the Seabrook Church of Christ, said children participating in the summer recreation program as well as those in the library’s summer reading program collectively brought close to 500 pounds of food to the pantry at the church.
“It was substantial,” said Pierce. “Coming in the middle of the summer, it’s a big deal.”
Pierce said since the majority of pantry donations usually occur around the holidays, the fact the kids made their contributions when they did came at a time when pantry items were down.
“I needed help to fill our pantry shelves,” Pierce said. “The kids stepped up to do something and helped out their neighbors.”
