Spotlight: Serving soles

NOTTINGHAM, England — A church in the homeland of Robin Hood doesn’t steal from the rich but gives to the poor an ocean away.

Throughout the year, the Stapleford Church of Christ collects shoes — and money for shoes, to take on its annual mission trip to Honduras. The project, Soles for Souls, donates the footwear to people living and working in the dumps of Tegucigalpa.

Since 2013, the church has raised thousands of dollars for the project — sparking interest from non-church members who insist on helping.

“People are good, and people are generous,” minster Bob Eckman said. “The responsibility is heavy to make sure that all donated goes for this great need.”
