Spotlight: Bite your tongue!

ALMATY, KAZAHSTAN — Steve Vrooman chose a bizarre — yet memorable — visual aid for a recent youth group devotional. Later he got a taste of his own medicine, literally.

Vrooman, whoministers in this Central Asian country, talked about proper use of the tongue, citing the third chapter of James. To drive the point home, he “pulled out ahuge Kazakh cow tongue, to the surprise of the 40-plus kids present,” said hiswife, Jenny Vrooman.

A church membercooked the tongue — considered a delicacy in some parts of Asia — and offeredSteve Vrooman a sample.

“It was actually verytender and much better than its appearance might suggest,” the missionary said.
