Spotlight: A clinic on a hill

MANZINI, Swaziland — After more than two years of planning and construction — and more than a few delays — a church-supported clinic in this southern African kingdom is almost complete. And it’s attracting attention, said medical missionary Dr. Bob Whittaker.

“The clinic, situated on a hill, can be seen from miles around,” he said, “and word and excitement is spreading fast as the building is painted.”
The clinic includes a pharmacy and counseling rooms for HIV patients. Swaziland has the world’s highest estimated prevalence rate of HIV-infected adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A government health official visited the site recently and “gave nothing but praise for the clinic and the need for it in the area,” Whittaker said.
