Southwestern Christian College receives $10,000 ‘Retool Your School’ grant
We reported earlier on efforts by Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas, to win a “Retool Your School” grant from Home Depot.
Results are in — and Southwestern is a winner.
The college plans to use its $10,000 award to give its campus landscaping a facelift this summer.
“I am just too excited,” Sylvia Thomas, Southwestern’s director of Title III and grant development, said in a-mail.
The grant program benefits historically black colleges and universities.

FeedbackDelighted to hear of the news myselfeddie fisherMay, 26 2011This is a great gift for Southwestern Christian College. It just shows what Students, alumni, and friends of Southwestern can do when they work together for a cause. I just want to say thank you to Sylvia Thomas who had the vision to get so many people involved to win this gift. Some thought that Southwestern was down and out after the fire destroyed a number of main buildings on the campus but God keeps on Blessing Southwestern over and over in so many different ways.

Warmest Regards, Sylvia ThomasSylvia ThomasMay, 27 2011Unfortunately Home Depot is a Huge Supporter of the Gay and ******* Agenda. For this reason Many conservative groups are boycotting their stores.Martha StanfordMay, 27 2011Our Metro Atlanta SwCC Fundraising Committee is “delighted” that SwCC has been chosen to receive this much needed grant. There is MUCH work to be done at SwCC, and this grant will get the work started to enhance the appearance of the school. We are most grateful to Home Depot for all of its efforts to improve HBCUs. Home Depot for their interest in all phases of Education.
To Sis Thomas and college for involving us in this effort.
To Alumni who gave me opportunity to “touch” morning and night as we encourage their Vote.
To Friends who trusted us to tell them about a great college and informed us that they voted every day.
To “My School” that stayed a part of my life morning (to see how we were dong) and eveing (that’s when I voted).
To Christian Chronicle for helping to spread the word of “Our Dream”
Alumnu, Dorothy Wellsdorothy WellsMay, 30 2011Like many others, I voted everyday that I could and encouraged others to do likewise and hey it paid off. All praises go to “The Almighty” for allowing our school to get a “piece of the pie”!! Every little bit counts!! Thanks through Home Depot, the school landscape should look somewhat better.
Thanks to the Christian Chronicle for getting the news about also.
Alumnu, Dennis GambleDennis Gamble, Class of 76′June, 1 2011Unfortunately, Home Depot has made the decision to publicly take a stand on a very divisive issue. As a financial backer, The Home Depot has stated it “is proud to support” the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) effort to force the legalization of homosexual marriage across America.
The American Family Association (AFA) has more info. http://action.afa.net/item.aspx?id=2147496231Lori HarmonJune, 1 2011I am so happy to have been a part of this great gift. What a blessing!Carol MitchellJune, 2 2011Great news! Helping HBC’s that are striving to maintain and promote education is powerful. Thanks to the organizations like this one that allows the school to work on keeping the place astecically pleasing.Cynthia PhiferJune, 4 2011It is possible that Home Depot, which openly advocates the gay/******* agenda, could have an unseen motive in donating $10,000 to a Christian college.
I am very disappointed that so few Christians seem aware of current events, as the USA becomes more secular every day.Martha StanfordJune, 4 2011Wow!.. I’m heppy! Thank God for richly blessing my school. I expect to see an even prettier campus this fall….
May God bless Home Depot for its blessing!….Sorry Martha; but I’m not angry at anyone!Hope Cook HoltJune, 9 2011I did not say I was angry at anyone, but just disappointed that so few Christians are actively involved in trying to stop secularization, or even being informed of any instances such as with Home Depot.Martha StanfordJune, 9 2011
