South MacArthur helps get school year off to good start

IRVING, Texas — Students line up in front of stacks and stacks of crayons as members of the South MacArthur church,Irving, Texas, distribute free school supplies Aug. 16. Hundreds of area families brought their children to receive the supplies.
The Beltline church, Decatur, Ala., sponsored a similar school supply drive, and members of the Hendersonville, Tenn., church collected more than $6,000 for their annual “New Clothes Drive” for 48 students.

In Irving, the giveaway was part of the South MacArthur church’s “Extravaganza,” which featured free classes in healthcare (right), managing finances and purchasing a home — all taught in Spanish, said cross-cultural minister Berto Murillo. Spanish language a cappella group Voces performed a free concert for the community.
