Solving a problem like Maria — and Irma

As relief groups wait for news from battered Puerto Rico, a Christian ministry collects funds to help the people of Anguilla.

Anguilla

Healing Hands International, a relief ministry associated with Churches of Christ, requests aid for the people of Anguilla.

The small Caribbean island, with a population of about 15,000, is a British Overseas Territory and part of the Lesser Antilles.

Hurricane Irma tore the roof from the building of a Church of Christ on the island of Anguilla.

Many buildings on the island, including the meeting place of a Church of Christ, were severely damaged by Hurricane Irma.

“Our brothers and sisters there have requested batteries, flashlights, weather radios and water filters,” Healing Hands reports.

For more information or to contribute, see the ministry’s Hurricane Relief in the Caribbean page.

About 230 miles west of Anguilla, the people of Puerto Rico are surveying damage and preparing for the long task of recovery after Hurricane Maria battered the island and destroyed the U.S. territory’s power grid.

We will post updates from Puerto Rico and other locales affected by recent hurricanes as they become available.
