The Abilene Reporter-News reports:
New Abilene Christian University President Dr. Phil Schubert accepted the chain of leadership Monday, issuing a challenge to nearly 5,000 students to apply their educations to surpassing even the notable achievements of former students.
“We can do it better and more intentionally,” Schubert said at his inaugural ceremony.
ACU must provide a world-class education, but not just for the sake of excellence alone, he said.
As they move out into the world, ACU graduates should make sure that beyond excelling in the professions of their calling, they are “carrying the lifesaving gospel of Jesus to those who desperately need it,” Schubert said.
“Our mission is compelling, our programs are bold and our 21st century vision is clear,” the university’s 11th president said.
“There is simply no room for mediocrity. We must bring our best to the table every day,” he said.
