President of church-supported nonprofit on a mission to help Syria’s refugees

The Abilene Reporter-News in Texas reports on Global Samaritan Resources, an Abilene-based nonprofit supported by Churches of Christ.

Seven months after becoming the executive director of Abilene nonprofit Global Samaritan Resources, Danny Sims is traveling to Jordan to assess how the group can help Syrian refugees.

As violence escalates in Syria, refugees are fleeing the destruction, and thousands of Syrians are displaced. International relief agency MercyWorks reports 8,000 refugees have escaped to Jordan.
Although he has no way of knowing for sure what refugees need, he thinks Global Samaritan Resources can use this as an opportunity to provide clean drinking water and medical supplies.
Global Samaritan Resources collects, houses and ships basic supplies and humanitarian aid supplies worldwide. The organization began with the shipment of one 40-foot container in 1999. It has grown each year, and about two dozen shipments went out in 2011.
To best find out how the nonprofit can help refugees, an initial trip is necessary, Sims said.
“It at least requires somebody with boots on the ground to see,” he said.

According to a news release on Global Samaritan’s website:

Global Samaritan’s interest will be to serve people and specifically assess how we can help with water purification and supplies. Sims will be taking a small case of supplies with him on his trip.

Please share this trip with your prayer network. Of course ask for prayer the safety of the team, but even more for the Syrian people and the Middle East in general.
