Passing the baton
Martha Rivera is the second native Honduran to serve as executive director of Predisan, a ministry founded 21 years ago by American missionaries, Dr. Robert and Doris Clark. The mission is one of many around the world launched by Americans who later turned over the reins to local Christians.
Vitaly Samodin and Lera Cherednichenko
This married couple directs the Ukrainian Education Center, a ministry center that houses a library and computer lab. A board of American church members launched the ministry in 2001 to introduce Ukrainian college students to Christ. Samodin and Cherednichenko were converted as students and became the center’s co-directors in mid-2007, succeeding missionaries Chris and Lena Lovingood.
D.J. Pasaribu and Herbin Simanjuntak
In 1998, an American missionary established the Batam Bible College in Indonesia to train future generations of church leaders. Several graduates have become teachers at the college. Indonesian Christians also are taking on administraative duties. Pasaribu and Simanjuntak recently were named the college’s director and assistant director, respectively. Ferdinand Malau will serve as dean of students, and Muller Tobingm will work in administration, missionary Winston Bolt said.
Dennis M. Okoth
Okoth, a native of Kenya, served as principal of the Nairobi Great Commission School for about seven years. American missionaries and Kenyan Christians founded the school to train church leaders in East Africa. Okoth now works in Mbale, Uganda, assisting the launch of a ministry training school.
