Burks’ contract extended through 2013
HARDING UNIVERSTIY
Harding University’s board of trustees has voted unanimously to extend President David B. Burks’ contract through 2013.
Burks, 63, the fourth president in Harding’s 82-year history as a four-year school, has served since 1987. Enrollment has more than doubled in that time, topping 6,100 this fall.
“The board feels that Dr. Burks has done a tremendous job as president … and that he should continue for many years in the future,” said Don Shores, chairman of the board.
York fire victims get outpouring of support
YORK COLLEGE
A downtown fire Oct. 20 left York College students Rusty Ridley and Joey Schwarz and former student Matt Phelps homeless and claimed most of their possessions.
After their apartment burned, the campus community responded with an outpouring of love and support, they said. They were given housing on campus as well as basic necessities and gift cards to help with short-term needs. “The immediate generosity has taken care of so many of our basic needs,” said Ridley, a senior from Laramie, Wyo.
