Earlier this month, we posted a video of 9-year-old Davis Burton describing how daily Bible reading has blessed his life.
That video inspired such an outpouring from readers that we decided to interview Davis and his parents for the first part of a new Christian Chronicle series called “God’s story.”
New on the Chronicle’s website is the article about Davis and other church members emphasizing daily Bible reading:
Sharply dressed in a button-down shirt and V-neck sweater vest, the speaker stood at the front of the church, microphone in hand, and talked about what he had learned reading the Bible.
The entire Bible.
A hushed silence overtook the packed auditorium of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Little Rock, Ark., as Davis Burton spoke.
“I had no idea what was about to happen,” said Jerry Allison, a longtime member of the White Station Church of Christ in Memphis, Tenn., who was visiting that day. “He presented perhaps the best synopsis of the Bible I have ever heard.”
The surprising part: Davis is only 9 years old. Yet the brown-haired boy with glasses delivered a sermon for the ages as he encouraged the crowd of nearly 1,000 people to enjoy the blessings of daily Bible reading during 2011.

FeedbackWhy is every one so interested in the version of the Bible that is read? They, all, are taken from the originals of ether the Greek or the Hebrew. I dare say that anyone alive today could read much less understand the first translation of the King James Bible. Yet, I enjoy studying the present writings of it. I believe as long as the meaning and the intent of both the writer and reader is to seek the will of God in their life the Holy Spirit will teach the word as God has Always wonted it to be understood. Let us not be divided over the text let us be together over the Doctrine That Jesus Saves And as Isaiah 55:11 states , that HIS Word will not return void. So the stories the same. So why wast time lets all get out and tell Gods , Jesus and our story of how we received the plan of SALVATION.Don TurnerFebruary, 16 2011
