Austin, Jack, JoAnn and Amber Lowry, on the night earlier this year when Jack Lowry was installed as an elder of the Edmond Church of Christ in Oklahoma.
Blogging live from Oklahoma City
As record rainfall deluged Oklahoma City on Monday, a number of area residents endured scary moments.
Among them were Austin Lowry, an Oklahoma Christian University student, and his mother, JoAnn. They are members of the Edmond Church of Christ, my home congregation.
News9 reports:
“The water rose so fast. I do not get worried and I was worried. My heart was racing and I said ‘This is very serious,'” said Austin Lowry.
Lowry helped his mother who recently had a liver transplant wade through the water to safety.
“Most of the way was knee deep, but at the highest the water was chest high,” Lowry added
Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort is sending a tractor-trailer load full of food and supplies to help Oklahoma flood victims. My colleague Erik Tryggestad, a Memorial Road member, tells me the rig is expected to arrive at the Memorial Road Church of Christ by late tonight.
We are hearing early reports of area church members and Oklahoma Christian staff members affected by the flood. If you know of specific needs, please feel free to leave a comment with details and contact information.
