Muslims fill Kenyan church to pray for their children

John Chege was surprised to see his church filled with Muslims on a recent Sunday.
The minister for the Ujamaa Church of Christ in a Muslim-dominated community near Mombasa, Kenya, had planned a special prayer service for eighth graders about to take their national exams. Across Kenya, eighth graders are required to take a standardized test for admission to secondary school (high school).
Here’s a snippet from Chege’s report:

I did not expect to see any Muslims coming for prayers because I have never seen them come for prayers.
To my surprise, the church was filled up with many Muslims — more than Christian students. This was a total surprise to me, to the point that I did not know what to do.
When I called all students to come forward for prayers, the Muslims came also and we prayed for them. This was so encouraging, to see even the Muslims around the church have confidence in our God.

Praise be to God! Thank you, John Chege, for praying for and over our Muslim friends and neighbors. All God’s children need all God’s blessings. I pray that they will find those blessings in and through Christ–who gave himself for ALL!

I am a born member of the Church of Christ at Riverlea in Johannesburg South Africa. This story has welled tears in my eyes as I have a beautiful loving son who lives with his muslim father and we pray for him daily. I have come to accept that muslim are my neighbour and that God said love thy neighbour also do unto others as you would like them to do unto you. I stand at the gate and wait for his return. God Bless

What a heart warming story! The Muslims pray to Allah (God). Their need for prayer is akin to a Christian’s.
G0d lead the Muslims to the Church of Christ in Ujamaa for a purpose. They have seen your light shine.

It was wonderful to see the great Glover Shipp adding his encouraging comments. He is a national treasure of the churches of Christ. I too wish our Kenyan brother much success in portraying the meaning of the gospel in his community. I would be interested to see a followup story in the Chronicle soon.

Praise God. This is a powerful sign that you and the church there has presented Christ and God in a very loving way. No name calling, no condemnation but love and well wishes and remaining ethical. We are praying that the outcome of the examination will be good and that these children will be loving and caring and successful and that their parents, and the children, will associate that with this prayer they received in the name of Christ.

Praise God for opening doors and hearts of those who don’t know Christ. You probably will never know the full value of allowing these Muslim students that opportunity to pray. There is ONE God!

This is good to hear and should give all Christians a boost in feeling the power of our Lord. I sure would have been overwhelmed if I had been the preacher there, or just a member.

Thankyou all of you for those encouraging words. It is the doing of the Lord to show the World and everyone that he reigns over all. Our God is the true God and all religion will soon learn that.
