Mississippi congregation brings Sunday sermons to life with day of service

The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tenn., features the Friendship Church of Christ in Olive Branch, Miss.:
For the roughly 180 people in attendance at Friendship Church of Christ, worship service was a little different on Sunday morning.
The Olive Branch congregation sang, gave praise and took communion, as usual. But rather than listen to stories of Jesus Christ’s goodwill, they took to the streets to spread their own.
“The whole purpose was to serve without any ulterior motives” said preaching minister Daniel Overton of Sunday’s “We are the Sermon” program. “It’s one thing to take the Eucharist, it’s another thing to live it.”
Church members, young and old, volunteered for the day’s activities and departed from worship at about 11 a.m.
