Jim Scudder, a missionary in Kenya supported by the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Little Rock, Ark., and his son, John, are safe after a kidnapping ordeal in the East African nation’s capital, Nairobi.
“Details are very sketchy at present,” said Roger Pritchett, missions minister for the Pleasant Valley church. Scudder and his son were abducted early on Nov. 3 and were reported as safe about 2:30 a.m. (Kenya time) Nov. 4 (5:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in Arkansas).
We will update details as they become available.
Jim Scudder has worked in Kenya since the 1970s, Pritchett said. His first wife died in childbirth, and he remarried Grace, a native Kenyan. The couple and their three children work among the Kikuyu people in Nyeri, a city in central Kenya. Pleasant Valley has supported the work since 1991.
“There are approximately 35 churches, and 1,000 Christians among the Churches of Christ in Kikuyu land,” Pritchett said.

FeedbackThe almighty God be magnified for He Himself has shown that he is our reliable master for He himself has rescued his humble servants from the jaws of the enemy. we praise his holy name. To Bro Scudder, be comforted that the love of God upon you is bigger than the hatred of the enemy against you.
Be blessed,
Bro Jackson Owino
Nairobi, Kenyajackson owino.November, 6 2010We remember Jim Scudder from the early 70s when we were missionaries in the same country of Zambia and also from Sunset School of Preaching in 1974. We are happy and praise the Lord that Jim and his son are now released from kidnapping in Kenya. I feel for the Scudder family in Kenya as a few years ago my husband Chester was taken hostage in South Africa. We thank the Lord he was released safely. One of Chester’s hostage takers is now a church of Christ preacher. So good can come out of these situations. We are missionaries in South Africa and our home church in the USA is the Bering Drive Church of Christ in Houston. Let us keep the Jim Scudder family in our prayers.
