Lori Windham to The Hill: ‘I’m a Christian, and my faith has always been important to me’
The Hill, a Washington-based publication covering Congress and politics, features Lori Windham, senior counsel at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and a member of the Fairfax Church of Christ in Virginia.
Earlier this year, Windham rose to prominence as part of the legal team that represented Hobby Lobby’s challenge of the Affordable Care Act contraception mandate. She talks with The Hill about that and other religious liberty cases in which she’s been involved — and the role her faith plays in her work.
Windham initially honed her interest in the law at Abilene Christian University, and later interned with the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division while at Harvard.
She said her own religious faith helps shape her approach to the job.
“I’m a Christian, and my faith has always been important to me,” Windham said. “Even though I’m working on issues that may never impact me personally, it’s wonderful to have the sense that I can make the law better and protective.”
