Michael Whitworth, pulpit minister of the Jersey Village Church of Christ in Houston, has begun a 70-hour Bible reading marathon.
You can watch it live on the Internet.
Whitworth told The Christian Chronicle:
“This program is encouraging everyone to be better students of God’s Word.”
Details from the “Eat This Book!” Marathon website:
More than 3000 years ago, an aged Moses sat on a hillside and watched Israel’s warriors head into battle against the Amalekites. During the fray, as long as Moses held his arms up, Israel was winning. But as soon as his arms dropped to his side, the tide turned against them. It was only by the aid of Aaron and Hur that Moses was able to endure, and Israel won a great victory that day (Exod. 17:8-13). In that spirit, a 70-hour marathon commenced on Sunday, January 2nd at 8:00 pm at the Jersey Village Church of Christ . Our pulpit minister, Michael Whitworth , began reading the Bible all the way through; that’s right: from Genesis to Revelation without stopping! The marathon is scheduled to be completed around 6:00 pm on January 5th.
The event kicks-off the congregation’s 2011 initiative encouraging everyone to read the Bible through in a year. Volunteers are on hand for 1- and 2- hour shifts to bring Michael coffee, food, and provide him with much-needed emotional support.
