Kid friendly lectures

Lectureship offers special events for children and teens.

HENDERSON, Tenn. — For its 81st annual Bible Lectureship, Freed-Hardeman University stayed up late.

At 10 p.m. each night, the 2,000-student university associated with Churches of Christ hosted special lectures for college-age students on integrity and other spritual topics.

Chattanooga, Tenn., minister David Pharr and his wife, Amber, attend the lectureship. Click here to see our feature on Pharr’s journey from 314 pounds to 314 miles. The five-day lectureship also featured programs for children and teens, plus specialized classes for Christian caregivers and a personal evangelism workshop conducted by faculty members David Powell and Mark Blackwelder. Other classes offered included sessions titled “Building Better Business Practices for Christians” conducted by the university’s business faculty.

Organizers took the lectureship’s theme, “Identity in Crisis,” from the Old Testament book of Daniel.

“Christians should not forget Daniel’s vision for the future, even in the midst of a cultural identity crisis,” said lectureship director Doug Burleson.

The lectureship was dedicated to the life and work of John W. Dale, an FHU alum who has preached for 52 years, including 39 for the Glendale Road Church of Christ in Murray, Ky.
John R. Hall conducts the Lectureship Chorus, a group of students and alumni.
