Joy Boxes bring ‘ear-to-ear smiles’ in Haiti
Every year, hundreds of Church of Christ members fill shoeboxes with Hot Wheels, Barbie dolls, socks and toothbrushes and send them to children in impoverished communities in the U.S. and around the globe.
Here’s one video of smiling faces in Haiti, where children recently received “Joy Boxes” from church members in the U.S. Hope for Haiti’s Children, a church-supported ministry, coordinated the effort.
And here’s a message from the ministry’s director, Ken Bever:
Ear-to-ear smiles were in abundance this past week as each of our children received a Christmas Joy Box which many of you lovingly packed just for them. For most of our newly sponsored children, this box was the first.gif?Action=thumbnail&Width=460&algorithm=proportionalt they ever received. What is striking to me is that we see so many of our sponsored children walking back home and immediately becoming “joy givers” themselves — generously sharing the contents of their Joy Box with siblings and friends who have nothing for Christmas. They have learned from our Master that you can even be happier when you are giving than receiving.
