Members of Herrin-area churches gathered for an end-of-summer Family Fun Day in Herrin City Park, and together raised $70,000 for Herrin House of Hope.

Scott Cody of Herrin Church of Christ said the proceeds will enable the cooperative ministry to purchase a building in downtown Herrin and hire an administrator.
“We’re still months away from opening our doors to the public,” Cody said, “but what was once a dream is now set to become a reality.”
Plans for Herrin House of Hope focus on helping needy people living within Herrin school district with hot meals, food distribution, emergency rent and utility assistance, life skills training and spiritual support.
