Harold Shank named Ohio Valley University president
VIENNA, W.Va. — Harold Shank will serve as the next president at Ohio Valley University, a 500-student university associated with Churches of Christ.
For 32 years, Shank ministered for the Highland Street Church of Christ in Memphis, Tenn. For the past five years, he served as professor of Old Testament at Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City. Shank is the national spokesperson for the Christian Child and Family Services Association and reviews editor for The Christian Chronicle.
“I’m drawn to the vision of Ohio Valley University,” Shank said. “It’s a dream that includes a solid relationship between the Churches of Christ and a Christian university with a mission to spread the Gospel in the most populous area of our nation.”
Shank succeeds James Johnson, who stepped down in early 2009. Keith Stotts, OVU’s chancellor and former longtime president, served as interim president.
“Dr. Shank brings a national reputation,” Stotts said. “He is well known as an advocate for children and young people. This university exists to prepare Christian young people for service in the Churches of Christ. … I can’t imagine that we could have found a more appropriate leader.”
