Global Gathering brings thousands to Brazil
Goiania, Brazil — Nearly 4,000 representatives of churches around the world met for the 18th Global Gathering of the World Convention. The convention is composed of members of Churches of Christ, Christian Churches and Disciples of Christ.
“Sharing the Love That Unites” was the theme, featuring speakers from Brazil, the U.S., Australia, Ghana and Portugal. Ken Young of Hallal Worship led singing. Teachers from eight countries led workshops on the Bible, Christian history and worldwide ministries.
The Brazil Gathering was the first to take place in the Global South — regions of the world, including South America, where Christianity has grown rapidly in the past half-century. World Convention President B.J. Mpofu, of Zimbabwe, led the convention, which was organized by Vice President Victor Hugo Queiroz of Brazil. World Convention’s executive director, Gary Holloway, is a former Bible professor at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn.
