Former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice, ACU grad Jack Pope dies at 103


Retired Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Jack Pope has died. Pope was 103.

He was a longtime member of the University Avenue Church of Christ in Austin and former president of The Christian Chronicle’s National Council, an advisory body that preceded the newspaper’s current governing board.

Pope passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017, in Austin.

According to the Abilene Reporter-News , Pope’s health had been declining in recent months and he had been placed under hospice care.

The Supreme Court of Texas Historical Society tweeted the following video in honor of Pope:

Funeral services for Justice Jack Pope are scheduled for 1 p.m. March 3 at the University Avenue Church of Christ, in Austin.
