Former Freed-Hardeman University professor dies after contracting West Nile virus

Eugene Hibbett’s wife, Jackie, said Eugene was not the type of person who had any time to waste, and it is evident from the life he led.
Eugene Hibbett, who turned 80 on July 17, taught chemistry at Freed-Hardeman University for 39 years, and almost during that entire span, when he wasn’t teaching, he was preaching at Churches of Christ in West Tennessee and North Mississippi, Jackie Hibbett said.Eugene Hibbett died on Saturday after suffering from encephalopathy because of the West Nile virus, Jackie Hibbett said.
She said her late husband’s passion was science.
