Best Practices: Lads to Leaders, LTC participants offer advice for newbies
Don’t force your kids to do everything, but don’t be…
A Florida 6-year-old is getting a lot of attention on social media after a video was posted of him quoting 100 Bible verses he had memorized.
Jackson, whose dad is the minister for the Jay Church of Christ in Florida, has worked all year to memorize the verses to reach the Lads 2 Leaders Centurion of Scripture gold level.
“That was one of the proudest moments,” Brittany Holloway, Jackson’s mom, told The Christian Chronicle. “We were both extremely proud.”
The Jay Church of Christ shared the video on Facebook and it has now been shared by many others.
Jackson has worked with is dad daily since January, gradually adding to his list of verses. He says his favorite our of all the verses is Romans 3:23 “… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Roy Johnson, executive director of Lads to Leaders, said Jackson’s ability to memorize scripture is pretty impressive.
“He’s not the youngest, but it is unusual for someone so young,” Johnson told The Christian Chronicle.
Jackson’s dad had promised him earlier in the year that he would pay him $1 for each verse he memorized. So, once he accomplished the goal his parents took him straight to the bank. With the $100 in hand Jackson once again shocked his parents.
“I asked him if he was going to buy something with the money,” Brittany said. “He said, ‘No, I’m going to give it to my daddy to help him go to India. I want to support him on his trip.'”
His dad left just days later, traveling with the church to India, and taking the money with him.
