Flooded Tennessee church returns home, prepares to rebuild
News Channel 5 in Nashville, Tenn., reports:
A Madison church devastated by last month’s flash flooding was back to their place of worship on Sunday morning.“I have learned the integrity, I have learned the character of this church and I have absolutely been amazed ,” Senior Minister Jason Shepherd told the crowd of about 400 people. On August 8, a drainage culvert which runs under the Madison Church of Christ backed up because of heavy rains causing 4ft. of raw sewage to back up into the building’s basement.Officials estimate the damage to be close to $1 million.“We’re gonna have to dig deep, who knows but we’ll make it. We always have,” explained parishioner Evelyn Flanary. The 40,000 square foot basement has been stripped down to the studs but the classrooms are still in need of some major repairs. Officials from the church say they do not have flood insurance.
