Faulkner students remember Major Sanders with a candlelight vigil

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — More than 150 Faulkner University students huddled together inside a small, outdoor amphitheater on Tuesday night, singing in perfect harmony the devotional hymns they knew growing up as members of the Church of Christ. Their faces lit only by the candles each one held in their hands, they held a vigil in honor of their friend, Major Sanders, who lost his life in a tragic single-vehicle car accident on Sunday morning, Oct. 7.
Before the candles were lit and the singing began, the students, many with tears in their eyes, took turns sharing their memories of Sanders with everyone in attendance; painting a portrait of gentle giant who was completely and honestly devoted to colleagues and school administrators alike.
