Facing giants: Church member, coach battling cancer honored by TV station’s “Pay it 4Ward” program

Andrew Hare, a member of the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, received a surprise gift of $400 from TV station KFOR’s “Pay it 4Ward” program.
Hare, who coaches a basketball team for the local YMCA, is battling cancer.
The camera crew filmed the feature in the Memorial Road church’s foyer and gym.

The TV station reports:

Basketball is a beautiful metaphor for life.
There are ups and downs, the camaraderie and sometimes, like life, it can be downright exhausting.
“It’s hard, at times – ups and downs,” Kelsea Hare told us. “But, we have been so blessed with our church family. Really, this basketball team has helped my husband in ways I can’t even begin to describe.”
Her husband, Andrew Hare, is the head coach.
On this night, his team is facing the Giants.
Andrew is facing a giant of his own.
Late last year, the 34-year-old father of four was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
It has since spread to his lymph nodes.
“What people may not know, he had chemo just hours ago. He was at the hospital today, and he’ll be there again tomorrow,” Kelsea said. “But, this is something that is really important to him, and he wants the boys to know you don’t just give up when life throws you hard things, you keep going – really, an inspiration to a lot of people.”
